Great Smoky Mountains National Park
It’s no surprise that a trip to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park ended up on our list. It is one of the most-visited national parks in the entire country and home to an amazing collection of fields, forests, hiking trails and campsites. Whether you stop for just a day or plan a longer trip to take in the scenery, we really can’t recommend the Great Smokey Mountains National Park enough.
When thinking of a city to visit for the day, Nashville is usually the first thing that comes to people’s minds. While Nashville is amazing and deserves your attention, we also wanted to give some love to Memphis. One of the best perks about Memphis is that it offers something for everyone including museums, live music, and the best BBQ you will ever eat. We promise it’s worth a visit.
Big South Fork
If you love spending time in the outdoors, Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area and the Twin Arches Loop inside the recreation area are can’t-miss Tennessee destinations. The Twin Arches Loop hike offers fantastic sites and photo opportunities including well-known geological formations like the South Arch.
The city of Gatlinburg Tennessee sits at the base of the Great Smokey Mountains and is a great sight-seeing location that can be combined with a trip to the national park. Visitors to Gatlinburg will find a lot of quirky shops and restaurants along with attractions that make great use of the scenery including the Gatlinburg Space Needle and Sky Lift.
More adventurous travelers may be interested in making a stop at the Cumberland Caverns in McMinnville. Cumberland Caverns is home to a 32-mile stretch of caves and offers guided tours year-round. If you plan your trip just right you may also be able to visit during one of their special events like a concert in the cave.
