The Toyota brand continues to be a class-leader in tech and safety offerings. Currently, most of the Toyota lineup is outfitted with either the Toyota Safety Sense or Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 active safety bundles that are stacked full of advanced driver aids. In addition to these standard safety features, Toyota has recently announced that it plans to add additional feature updates to most of its 2020 lineup including automatic engine shut off and automatic park. Learn more about both features below.
Automatic Engine Shut Off, Automatic Park Coming to the Toyota Lineup
Automatic Engine Shut Off
The automatic engine shut off feature is expected to be paired with the Toyota Smart Key system meaning 2020 models that include Toyota Smart Key should also include automatic engine shut off. This feature helps reduce fuel consumption by automatically shutting off the vehicle’s engine after it has been left idling for a pre-determined amount of time.
The automatic park feature is set to arrive on 2020 models already equipped with electronic shifting and braking capabilities. In the event that a driver was to exit an equipped Toyota vehicle without placing it in park, automatic park would engage the parking brake ensuring that the vehicle is safe and secure and will not roll. Toyota models not outfitted with automatic park will sound an audible and visual alert for drivers to remind them to place their vehicle in park. Most models will also automatically engage the parking brake when the engine is turned off.
