Hatchback vs Sedan: Which is the right choice for you?

The most obvious difference between a hatchback and sedan is the trunk and cargo space. A sedan’s trunk is completely separated from the seating area and often has a much smaller capacity compared to a hatchback counterpart. A Hatchback’s trunk space is open to the seating area, and thanks to 60/40 split-folding rear seats that come standard on most all hatchback models the rear 2017 Toyota Prius cargo space with the rear seats folded downseats can be folded flat to expand the cargo space further when additional storage for larger items is needed.

Pros and Cons

There is a lot to love about both vehicle classes. We find that budget, lifestyle, and style preference are usually the driving factors in the decision between a hatchback or a sedan. Car shoppers who are interested in the versatility of switching between passenger and cargo hauling will usually opt for a Toyota hatchback. Though, costlier up-front pricing and less fuel efficiency can be drawbacks to this class.

Car shoppers looking for a vehicle that offers a maximum amount of passenger comfort will generally gravitate towards a Toyota sedan. Some car shoppers also prefer the exterior design and shape of the Toyota sedan models better than hatchbacks. Though, sedan drivers will have to forgo some of the hauling versatility inherent in a hatchback as a tradeoff.
