Various milestones the Toyota Tundra met in the past twenty years
The Toyota Tundra is one of the best trucks on the market. This is due to its tough and rugged exterior, comfortable interior, and its ability to tow an incredibly large amount of weight. Let’s take a look at the various milestones the Toyota Tundra met in the past twenty years.
In the beginning…
Back in 1999, the Toyota Tundra was first introduced. It was the first-ever full-sized truck to be built in America by a Japanese automaker, and it was manufactured in Indiana. The manufacturing plant was later moved to Texas. However, if you were to go and visit the Indiana manufacturing plant today, you would be able to see the very first Toyota Tundra that drove off of the assembly lines.
What other truck has towed a spaceship or reached 1,000,000 miles?
The Toyota Tundra has always been a truck that pushes the limits and extends boundaries. One of the times the truck did this was in 2012. A Tundra CrewMax 4×4, that was not modified, towed the Endeavour spaceship across a Los Angeles freeway. The spaceship and its equipment were about 292,000 lbs. It took the Tundra about five minutes to help the spaceship on this small portion of its journey.
Another milestone that the Toyota Tundra has reached in its twenty years is reaching 1,000,000 miles. Very few vehicles have been able to reach this incredible number, but in 2016, a Toyota Tundra did it. The owner purchased the truck when it had 125,000 miles on it, and he kept on pushing it! He said that he believes the vehicle lasted so long because he frequently took it in for tune-ups and fluid changes.
