What types of windshield cracks can you fix?

A crack in your windshield is never a pleasant sight. However, if you’re fortunate and have good timing, you can stop small chips from turning into ugly spider cracks. Best of all, you might be able to repair the chip yourself with a DIY windshield repair kit.

Types of windshield cracks

There are a variety of types of windshield cracks, but there are only certain types that can be repaired with a DIY repair kit. If the damage is too severe or too deep into the surface of the glass, than it might be time for a full windshield replacement.

Windshield chips that can be fixed with a DIY repair kit:

  • Stars
  • Flowers
  • B.B. Chips
  • Bull’s-Eyes

Windshield cracks that can’t be fixed with a DIY repair kit:

  • Spider Cracks
  • Cracks
  • Surface Damage

A good rule of thumb is when the chip is shallow and perpendicular to the surface of the glass, then it’s likely it can be repaired with a kit.
